What is Trauma?


When we have any experience that is too much, too fast, too soon, and for too long -any experience that overwhelms our body’s ability to recover stability, we can think of this as Trauma.
We retreat from our feelings and become stuck in our thinking, relationships and behaviour. We may never feel satisfied and content, lacking energy and aliveness. It can feel like being in prison needing to find a way out.

Causes of trauma

The most common form of trauma is developmental. The child needs safety of attuned parents to support healthy development of the brain and neurobiology. In absence of this safety, the child learns to develop so-called survival strategies to cope with emotional lack, stress and overwhelm. The result is stress, shame, rage, fear, self-loathing that can accumulate in the young person’s system.
Shock trauma on the other hand is caused by a single incident such as accident, natural disaster, medical trauma (surgery).


Trauma and Growth

I provide a holistic and body-centred approach to healing, growth and recovery based on neurobiology, body observation and movement. I can help you work through the symptoms of trauma, chronic stress and overwhelm by learning to connect with your body and understand your nervous system. Your body has all the answers, together we can learn to listen through:
